| News - Naturediet Joins Pet Food Revolution
Naturediet Pet Foods is proud to have joined the Campaign for Real Pet Food (CRPF). Until now, dogs’ diets have undergone little scrutiny, but the CRPF and its many supporters, including TV vet Joe Inglis, BBC Crufts presenter Matt Baker and Dragon’s Den Entrepreneur Deborah Meaden aims to bring forth the message that pet owners deserve better – better pet foods, and better information about them.
As humans we have long since accepted that ‘we are what we eat’, so by the same token ‘our pets are what we feed them.’
Campaigning for clearer labelling and more natural ingredients for all pet food, Naturediet’s Managing Director, Carol Wilcox, believes “Pet food science has advanced to induce pets to eat ingredients that they would never normally eat. Much commercial pet food contains flavour enhancers,
colourings and preservatives. Many ingredients are subjected to torturously high temperatures and then ‘fortified’ with vitamins and minerals,” she explains. In addition, many Veterinary Surgeons now believe that poor quality or unnatural diets may be contributing to many of the new diseases affecting dogs today.
Naturediet knows these contrived pet foods will always exist, but is joining the call for clearer labelling on packaging, so that consumers can make an informed choice about what they are feeding their pets. ‘What’s in my pet’s food?’ is a very good question – but not one that most pet food companies are willing to answer honestly, states the CRPF.
Commenting on the CRPF, Carol Wilcox says: “We are pleased to be part of such an important campaign. We pride ourselves not only on our ingredients, but also on our clear labelling and honest advice. We know that pet owners want the best for their animals, but without the correct information this can be difficult to achieve. This campaign is well overdue and it will hopefully improve the health and lives of Britain’s pets and lead to more informative labelling of pet foods.”
